When Matic Jurkošek first read "How to Win Friends and Influence People" a decade ago, inspired by Warren Buffett's praise for the book, he couldn't have imagined he would one day become part of the Dale Carnegie legacy. Now, as Slovenia's newest Dale Carnegie franchise owner, he's preparing to bring the globally renowned training company's programs to his home country.
With over 20 years of experience in sales and team management across various industries, Jurkošek brings a wealth of practical knowledge to his new venture. "Everyone in business knows the Dale Carnegie book," he notes. "What they don't realize is there's a well-organized franchising system behind it."
Currently serving as Director of Strategic Projects at a German-owned educational content company, Jurkošek's transition to a Dale Carnegie franchise owner was a natural progression. "The principles are very close to the way I think," he explains. "My mindset is a Carnegie mindset."
His plans for launching the franchise in Slovenia are methodical and leverage his extensive network. He aims to secure speaking opportunities at prestigious business events. He's also planning innovative marketing approaches, such as sending personally embossed Dale Carnegie books to key business leaders.
"Wealth isn't measured in dollars but in your ability to attend your kids' recitals."
But beyond the business opportunity, Jurkošek's motivation runs deeper. As the father of 10-year-old Ema, who takes weekly piano lessons, he sees franchise ownership as a path to greater flexibility. "Wealth isn't measured in dollars," he reflects, "but in how many times you can attend your kids' recitals."
The support he's received from Dale Carnegie's global network has reinforced his decision. "I've been really impressed by the 360-degree support," he says, highlighting the comprehensive training materials, quarterly research papers, and assistance from both the headquarters and other franchisees.
For those considering a similar path, Jurkošek emphasizes the importance of perseverance and organization. "Everyone thinks being a business owner is sexy," he says, "but you need to work even when it's boring, when you don't feel like it, when you're fed up. You need perseverance and stamina."
As Slovenia's Dale Carnegie franchise prepares to launch its first programs in late 2025, Jurkošek is already looking ahead to bigger goals, including a Dale Carnegie Conference planned for 2026. With his blend of corporate experience, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to work-life balance, he's well-positioned to bring Dale Carnegie's transformative programs to a new generation of Slovenian business leaders.
